PizzaExpress was founded back in 1965 and today is a multinational pizza restaurant chain with over 470
restaurants across the UK and 100 overseas in Europe, Hong Kong, China, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore and Saudi Arabia. They have 15 restaurants in Ireland alone, operating under the Milano brand.

The challenge

PizzaExpress’s existing gift card programme was being managed via a legacy platform that no longer served a thriving restaurant chain’s needs. Not only that but the platform was actually being retired by their existing vendor, so a new solution needed to be found – and fast. A classic ‘burning platform’ moment.

With their peak trading season approaching, PizzaExpress had just three months before they needed their new gift card processing platform to be fully migrated so time was of the essence.

The Savvy solution

PizzaExpress already had active gift cards with balances and many thousands of unsold cards hanging in Tesco and other high street retailers, making a change plan with no impact to this card inventory paramount.

Savvy’s extensive migration experience and demonstrated understanding of successful gift card programme migrations was key to selecting Savvy as their new processor. Already working together in their Irish business, Milano, for several years, PizzaExpress felt confident choosing Savvy.

The migration had a hard deadline so it was all hands on deck. Daily stand up project calls across five workstreams kept the teams moving through milestones at pace, with senior execs on standby to rapidly remove any unexpected roadblocks.

The result was the fastest migration in Savvy’s history, completing within just six weeks. PizzaExpress were up and running in time for their peak trading season with a platform that truly meets all their needs.
